It is difficult for me to blog about myself or art because it seems incredibly selfish to me. However, it seems like one of those things (art) that should be discussed with all humility. I would never consider myself an artist in the way that our society deems one to be an artist. I believe that art is self expression, and everyone is capable of that. This quote by G.K. Chesterton clarifies my thoughts a bit more:
"Art is a right and human thing, like walking or saying one's prayers; but the moment it begins to be talked about very solemnly, a man may be fairly certain that the thing has come into a congestion and a kind of difficulty."
I seek, as a human being, only to connect with other human beings. We are relational beings, I just happen to take to music and composition as my expression. I hope that it is never thought of as "special" or "high art," however I do hope that it is unique, because all people are unique from each other in some way. I love what I do, and I take what I do (in all things) seriously, but I try to avoid all seriousness of myself.
For me, this makes music, art, poetry etc. more vibrant because it tears down the barrier between artist and audience. We are all the artist, and I appreciate you letting me "talk" with you in a concert. My expression in never to be elevated over another.
